Marion "Butch" Logan

March 24th, 1952 to January 25th, 2011

Butch was a good guy. We grew up in the same hood, with a long list of others, and attended the same elementary, junior high, and high schools. In looking back over school and summer pictures, Butch was always there with me whether they were pictures with our classmates or sports group pictures.

Butch was a tough, lanky kid. He partook in football, baseball and track. Most boys were bigger and weighed more but Butch held his own. He could run like the wind but it was his jumping ability that made him a track star. His broad jumping skills were incredible. I can vision him still running down the track, planting his foot on the broad jump board and launching himself up and out. He was all arms and legs. When he landed in the sand pit and you looked back to where it started, you knew this guy had talent and was special. Not only did Butch have talent but also possessed grace and charm. His exterior character was tough and he was tough, but on the inside, Butch was a marshmallow. I enjoyed being in his company.

May God bless you, Butch. May you rest in peace. You were and are loved by many.

You were right. I couldn’t whip you. I could always count on you being my friend. I miss you Butch. You occupy a special place in my heart.

You wrote in my 'Corral 1970' that you wished we could have known each other sooner and that your favorite picture of me was the one in my senior year baseball uniform.

How little I knew at the time that I would not see or speak to you again; not on this earth.

We never know how many more days we have.

My special memory is that special moment spent with you when you signed my yearbook.

Billy Williams

Me and Billy went to elementary, junior high and high school together. We lived in the same hood. He would call and visit me when I was in El Paso, Texas.

His dad, Vernon, was good to me as well as other 1970 OHS graduates. One summer when home for a break, he hired me for some summer time work. At the end of the summer, Vernon paid me my drag up check and handed me an invoice.

The invoice was for damages done while working at Texas Flange. The assets I tore up totaled more than all my gross paychecks while employed! Vernon never held me liable for that debt.

His son, Billy, had the same type of humor and forgiving spirit.

Hope to see both of you in the future.
